The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10 NKJV)
PEACE OF GOD
Pause for a moment, if you will, and hear out Dr. Carjie Scott as she vividly explains why her newly-released book, You Are Accepted: How to Get Accepted Into College And Life, strategically aligns with the purpose for which God has created her.
“God created me to share this story,” Dr. Scott told Making Headline News this week. “I lived through it to tell it. My mother was murdered by her boyfriend, a Chicago police officer. I used to witness the domestic violence she endured. This happened when I was six years old, and I cannot begin to explain how badly it hurt me to see the man she loved hurt her.
“It was also troublesome to see someone who is supposed to be respected in the community hurt my mother often while in uniform. However, I forgive him,” Dr. Scott continued. “I learned at a young age that hurt people, hurt people. I learned that just because someone is an authority figure, it doesn’t mean that they are perfect. I learned that our time on this earth is limited and we need to be sure that we are living each moment in service to God. I learned how one bad decision can hurt yourself and others. God commanded me to tell this story so that other ‘Carjamins’ will learn from what is going on around them.”
The story to which Dr. Scott is alluding specifically unfolds in You Are Accepted: How to Get Accepted Into College And Life, her featured written work that made its ceremonious debut in April 2021.

An awe-inspiring, life-altering book that is comprised of 85 pages in length, Dr. Scott’s You Are Accepted: How to Get Accepted Into College And Life depicts the life of the woman who’s suitably known as The Education Equalizer™ whom, to her credit, miraculously defied the odds as a first-generation college student who rose to the top, as mentioned in a detailed synopsis of this Gainesville, Florida-based author’s book at Amazon.com.
“When faced with opposition as a woman of color in higher education, she spoke truth to power and held leaders accountable to their institution’s governing policies that silenced the powerless and enabled the powerful,” said an Amazon spokesperson for Dr. Scott’s You Are Accepted: How to Get Accepted Into College And Life.
Interestingly, Dr. Scott goes to great lengths to advocate for college first-generation college students, particularly African-Americans.
“She believes these students will enroll, endure, excel, and graduate,” said an Amazon spokesperson for this remarkably compelling book. “Consequently, they will become gainfully employed when they are a part of an academic environment that celebrates their innovative ingenious as well as their diversity.”
In essence, Dr. Scott’s vision, by all accounts, is to create an inclusive and diverse higher education work environment that reflects the student body instead of what she refers to as “an agency that repels or rebukes them.”
In a nutshell, she emphasized, education will always be one of the vehicles that accelerates greatness. However, education should never be the entity that contributes to stagnation for anyone, according to The Education Equalizer,™ who relentlessly works to ensure that education is not only accessible, but equitable.
Having already emerged as bestselling author, Dr. Scott told MHN she captured the vision to compose her new while working at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

“I began to journal about my experiences because I felt blessed to have achieved the opportunity but conflicted because I did not feel valued there,” Dr. Scott recalls. “I never felt good enough or that I belonged or deserved it. I felt challenged as though I had to overcompensate to while delivering results.”
Dr. Scott, in fact, emphasized, among other things, she sensed it was essential to write You Are Accepted: How to Get Accepted Into College And Life, in large part because she felt like an outsider, of sorts.
But God…
“I felt like it was hard for me to be my authentic self, because I came from very humble beginnings,” Dr. Scott explained. “I know what judgement feels like. I know how hard it is to own your story. I know how hard it is to confront your past in order to move forward. I wanted to share with readers how important it is to believe in yourself and accept yourself. I began writing the book in November of 2020. It covers the last decade-and-a-half of my experience serving students in higher education and being a higher education executive leader.”
A book she needed somewhere in the neighborhood of two months to compose, Dr. Scott’s You Are Accepted: How to Get Accepted Into College And Life has been as good as advertised, given it has garnered a “bestseller” status, coupled with an assortment of rave reviews.
“Wow…the intended audience was college students. However, many people have left reviews and indicated that this book is for everyone,” said Dr. Scott, adding that she is grateful to Rosetta Miller-Perry, CEO and President of the Tennessee Tribune for writing the foreword for her book (“and encouraging me to speak up and stand up for what is right even if it makes people uncomfortable,” she said). (This book is) for anyone looking for a story on resilience, empowerment, and seizing opportunities.”

As for the divine message she aspires to send to her reading audience through her highly-anticipated book, Dr. Scott said: “The divine message is just like the college admissions process: life takes preparation. When you enroll in college, you must submit transcripts, personal statements, and recommendation letters. In life, it’s the same thing. You have to prepare and continue to sell yourself. However, it is important to not allow others to determine your value. You must accept yourself before anyone else will accept you. You must own your story — flaws and all — and keep learning and preparing for your next steps in order to level up in life. You must have faith, even when you do not see what is coming ahead.”
Just like she did.
With God, her Helper, steering the way.
