I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful. I know that full well. (Psalm 139:14 NIV)
GODLY THING OF BEAUTY
To her distinctly unique credit, Deanetha Nicole Parks’ compelling hobby she adopted some seven years ago has been appropriately constructed into a full-fledged business.
“I started making bracelets as a hobby, because it was something relaxing that I could do outside of work,” Parks, a Mid-South entrepreneur told Making Headline News this week. “I am also a very colorful person, who believes, ‘Why fit in when you can stand out?’”
A native of Clarksdale, Mississippi who was christened Miss Black Clarksdale from 1996-1998, Parks’ unorthodox, vintage style appearance customarily garnered attention, particularly when she would wear her hand-crafted jewelry, she recalls.
“And that is what prompted the business,” said Parks, a resident of Olive Branch, Mississippi who is the owner and CEO of Mama Bird’s Jewelry Nest.

As Parks explained, her awe-inspiring hobby initially started out as a freewill endeavor, of sorts, during which she would assemble her jewelry and give it way as a strategic way to introduce her craft.
It wasn’t long thereafter, however, that she deemed to essential to take her business to the next level.
And rightfully so.
“I honestly had no desire to ever promote or sell the business and I gave away a lot as gifts,” Parks explained. “However, seeing others wear and appreciate something that was handmade by me inspired me even more. I work hard to make sure each bracelet tells a story.”
And, much to her delight, it’s safe to assume Parks, in all likelihood, will be telling life-altering stories through her immeasurable invention for years to come.
An accomplished registered nurse whose professional career dates back to 2002, Parks earned an undergraduate degree from Union University. Interestingly, she’s acquired several advance certifications, most notably in case management, home and community-based nursing, and long-term care nursing.
As a for a rising business venture that has brought her a considerable amount of success, Parks said amongst the things about which she relishes is the fact that routinely becoming engaged in creating her jewelry, by all accounts, gives way to a sense of tranquility.
“(I love) the peace that I get when I am alone and my mind is in creative overdrive to make something beautiful,” Parks said. “It is a peaceful escape from being a mom and nurse. Beading is also my prayer time.”
A business venture that is nearing its third full year of existence, Parks began assembling hand-crafted jewelry in 2013. Today, her highly sought-after products are available to men and women of all ages — “although we don’t recommend our products for anyone under the age of 14 due to choking hazards,” Parks emphasized — and her jewelry can be shipped anywhere around the country.
To her credit, Parks’ jewelry venture is starting to attract a global presence, considering she has been afforded the golden opportunity to ship her products to Qatar, a peninsular Arab country whose terrain comprises arid desert and a long Persian Arab Gulf shoreline.
A business she was inspired to establish amid the wise counsel of close friend, Parks doesn’t shy away from the notion that she’s overwhelmingly blessed she’s gone to great lengths to transform what was an everyday hobby into a growing day-to-day entrepreneurial operations.
“My friend, Jessica, is my biggest inspiration,” Parks said. “The idea of making bracelets began from our lunch break runs to the craft stores, again with the intentions of keeping for ourselves or giving as gifts.”
Interestingly, Parks sensed she was on to something — something far greater than good-natured spirit during which she customarily handed out her products as a periodic favorable deed.
“Jessica pushed me past my insecurities to take this to another level, and I am forever grateful to her for that,” Parks said. “It is my desire that everyone who has one of my bracelets is amazed and can feel the energy and love that was put into making them. All of our bracelets are made with genuine gemstone beads that have a wide array of healing properties. I specialize in inspirational and motivational quote charms that serve as a subtle reminder of God’s grace or a pick-me-up.”
Talk about taking a routine and intriguing hobby and using it mightily to glorify God whom, much to Parks’ delight, has now blessed her with an immeasurable, crafty gift that has greatly enabled her to obtain wealth.
“My mantra is, ‘I will hold myself to a standard of grace, not perfection.’ Perfection is satan’s trap, but grace is God’s divine gift. Therefore, I have coined my hashtag: #grace&hustle,” Parks said.
Seven years and counting.
