GOD’S PURPOSE PUSHER
LANCASTER, Texas — For LaKis Sims, she was blessed to witness a glimpse of God’s glory when she was just a little girl growing up in the church.
“First, my god mother, Missionary Daphne Tillman,” Sims, during an interview this week with Making Headline News, said, recalling who is responsible for inspiring her to diligently pursue her lofty goals and ambitions. “She always instilled in me as a little girl that I will be a light to women my age and they will want to follow me.”
And so it ultimately came to pass, Sims’ fervent rise as the architect of Levitate Survival, her rising Texas-based empowerment platform that has become a fixture for strategically empowering women and men, although the primary focus is on women who are victims of domestic violence.
“Also, (I credit) my principal/brother, who helped me come up with the name, Levitate,” Sims said. “He was a big motivator as I was writing the book.”

Fortunately for Sims, God is using her mightily through a credible faith-based empowerment endeavor that is enabling like-minded women to become better versions of themselves.

A gifted author, devoted mother, Sims’ Levitate Survival officially went into operations in October 2022 and comes amid her milestone as a domestic violence survivor. The Houston-based empowerment extraordinaire also functions as a philanthropist and motivational speaker through her acclaimed platform.
As part of Making Headline News’ advance coverage of Sarah Jakes Roberts’ inaugural Woman Evolve Conference September 14-16 from Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, Sims, 42, spoke at length about how she relishes the notion that God has strategically set her aside for His use, particularly by way of a game-changing platform that customarily empowers women with their occasional struggles.

A Houston-area single mother, Sims recalled how a gruesome domestic violence occurrence three years ago with her then-husband landed her in the hospital, fighting for her life.
“I am a victim of domestic violence,” said Sims, referring to arguably her life’s darkest season that transpired on July 6, 2020. “My life was changed. My (then-husband) of 17 years shot me point blank in the chest, two inches from my heart. After being shot, I was able to overcome all the obstacles the doctors said I would face. I just recently had the bullet removed in November of 2022.”
Such a life-altering experience, Sims acknowledged, essentially sums up why she’s destined to empower women from various walks of life to press and navigate through their downtrodden issues — with God, their Helper, steering the way.
Sims’ Levitate Survival customarily services individuals and groups ranging in ages 15-to-75.
With the Woman Evolve Conference less than three weeks away, Sims remains hopeful that Jakes Roberts will become inspired by her story, particularly the rash of hurdles through which she had to clear during the course of her life.
NEVER, EVER FORGET…
“I like being able to let other women and men see that I am not only surviving, but I’m a levitating survival, which means living beyond survival,” Sims, the author of the October 2022-released Knowing When To Let Go, told MHN. “My mission is that my company will help women and men know just because you have been knocked down, you can still bounce back and be greater.”
A native Houstonian, Sims is a 1999 graduate of Houston’s North Shore Senior High who acquired a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Houston-Downtown.
A business endeavor that is starting to attract a national presence — specifically in Los Angeles and Tyler, Texas — Sims’ itinerary includes a speaking engagement October 14 in Houston.
CHANGING A GENERATION
Nearly a year removed from witnessing the startup of Levitate Survival, Sims emphasized it is imperative that she esteems and inspires others daily through her credible platform.
“It is important because I want others to know that just because you are bruised, you are not broken,” Sims said. “Some of my favorite sayings are, ‘Learn to dance in the rain because there is a rainbow on the other side.’ And I also like to say, ‘Broken crayons still color.’”
After all, she’s thoroughly convinced that is what typically happens when one witnesses a glimpse of God’s glory.
