And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18 KJV)
Another much-anticipated harvest season, another heavenly supply of uncommon favor for Yolanda Townsend.
After a six-year stint as an Assistant Pastor for Empowerment Worship Center in Greenville, South Carolina, Townsend is steadily witnessing God elevate her to immense heights, all the while she savors the fruits of her labor in the process.
“Over the years, I can look back over my life in ministry and see how the different areas made a huge impact and prepared me for this next level,” Townsend told Making Headline News this week.
For Townsend, the ensuing level has finally arrived now that she has been christened the shepherd to steer a flock as Senior Pastor of Uncommon Favor Ministries in Anderson, South Carolina, a milestone she envisioned would come to fruition long before her forthcoming consecration service October 20, during which she will be officially installed to her new ministerial post.
“The Lord started positioning me eight years ago while serving 20-plus years at a former church, Mt. Sinai World Outreach, then six years at Empowerment Worship Center,” Yolanda, a native of Anderson, South Carolina, explained. “The call to the office was there and I only needed to remove the fear and walk into it.”
Now that she’s just days away from stepping it up a spiritual notch, it’s safe to assume that all fear is gone for Townsend whom, given her immeasurable track record as a clergywoman, was destined to garner the Senior Pastor label the moment she had officially accepted her calling to preach the Gospel.

Yes… another much-anticipated harvest season, another heavenly supply of uncommon favor for such an illustrious time as now.
Never mind that Townsend had admittedly aspired to delve off into another spiritual direction, of sorts.
“After years of praying and seeking the Lord for His direction, He gave me the church name, Uncommon Favor Ministries,” Townsend said. “Even when I tried to seek out something different, the Holy Spirit continued to redirect me back to Uncommon Favor Ministries. It’s important to be sure to follow the direction and voice of God.”

That she steadfastly obeyed God’s command by sticking with the name of her church that’s located at 111 Market Place Drive in Anderson, for her valiant efforts — coupled with her impressive body of work in ministry — have given way to this soon-to-be newly-installed Pastor reaping that about which she has longed for ever since she was set aside for God’s use: uncommon favor.
“Over the years, I can look back over my life in ministry and see how the different areas made a huge impact and prepared me for this next level,” Townsend said. Working with various youth groups, women ministries, Aids Ministry, and serving food helped me to advance the gifts of help and teaching. Working with young girls gave me insight on what it is like doing life as a young saved girl, transitioning into womanhood. Having my personal ministry, DIVAS 4 Christ Ministries, helped me to be humble, to serve not only those within the church, but most importantly the community.”
Finally, the time has come for Townsend to assume a more strategic and massive role in ministry, an assignment that, quite frankly, shouldn’t have come as a surprise to anyone, considering serving God’s people has been figuratively tattooed to her life for as long as she can recall.
“Ministry is never easy, but it is rewarding. The fact in knowing that others within the surrounding communities and around the world are being blessed by my ministry is rewarding for me. My heart’s desire is to please God, because He comes first in my life and ministry. I want to encourage those whom the Lord has sent to sit under me, be connected to me, or as a mentee that no matter how difficult it looks, never give up. Giving up is not an option.” — Pastor Yolanda Townsend
Come October 20, Townsend won’t be thrust upon center stage alone.
As usual, her “best friend” and husband of 15 years, Christopher L. Townsend Sr., as well as the couple’s two children, Christian and Crystal, will stand alongside her as they will be officially dubbed the first family of Uncommon Favor Ministries.
“I can only imagine the nervous excitement that will fill the room along with the Lord’s presence,” said Townsend, describing what will likely go through your mind during her consecration. “Although I am nervously excited, I am also humbled at the fact that He chose me to deliver His message to the people. My mind will be racing with thoughts of making sure all is in place on that day, and more importantly, I just want the glory of God to fill the building.
“Ministry is never easy, but it is rewarding,” Townsend continued. “The fact in knowing that others within the surrounding communities and around the world are being blessed by my ministry is rewarding for me. My heart’s desire is to please God, because He comes first in my life and ministry. I want to encourage those whom the Lord has sent to sit under me, be connected to me, or as a mentee that no matter how difficult it looks, never give up. Giving up is not an option.”
