Felicia Dortch can greatly attest to what it is like to battle the dreaded spirit of depression.
Because of who is she and because of where God is taking her, she also knows full well what it is like to defy the urge to quit.
“I was dealing with depression due to a bad marriage and I felt alone,” Dortch told Making Headline News this week. “I felt I had no one to talk to, not even God.”
Much to her delight, Dortch — clinging to immense unwavering faith during arguably the darkest hours of her young life — was met by what obviously was a solid support system, one that had ultimately helped steer her in the right direction with God, her Helper, leading the way.
“I joined a small group and begin to really understand what it meant to pray and have faith,” Dortch recalled. “I begin to pray more and read my Bible on a daily basis, and realized that it wasn’t God Who wasn’t listening…it was me not talking (to Him).”
Having developed the mindset to seek and consult God for the divine sense of direction she so desperately sought, amongst the things about which Dortch had come to discover — and embrace — was that, clearly, her sufferings weren’t worth comparing with the glory that would be revealed in her.

“I produced this book to help others start a conversation with God on a daily basis,” Dortch said.
The book to which Dortch is alluding is her kingdom-advancing written document entitled, “Dear God, Can You Hear Me?”
One of three published documents she has assembled, Dortch’s “Dear God, Can You Hear Me?” is centered largely on helping others to start a conversation with God on a daily basis, she acknowledged.
“To some, the Bible can be intimidating, so I included a verse for each day to read and help to cultivate the relationship and your conversation with God,” Dortch, a native of Crosby, Texas said.
A book she began composing approximately a month ago, Dortch needed just a few weeks to finish “Dear God, Can You Hear Me?”
Aside for that book, Dortch has also authored these notable projects: #MomBoss: Life On Purpose 2018 and “G.I.R.L 2018.”
Given the immense strides she’s made since delving off into the ever-so-competitive world of authorship, it’s safe to assume that, well, this brilliant and gifted writer knows full well what it is like to defy the urge to quit.
If nothing else, she’s grasped a thorough understanding that even after arguably the most downtrodden season of her life, a much-anticipated harvest season would ultimately come full circle, thus unfold right before her very eyes.
“God is always listening,” said Dortch, explaining the divine message sending to her reading audience through her books. “He loves us unconditionally and when we don’t hear Him, it is because we are not talking, nor cultivating a relationship with Him. Also, (we are) to take each day and spend time with God. He renews our strength and gives us new grace and mercy each day.”
As Dortch emphasized, the feedback she’s acquired through her books have been extremely helpful, particularly to those who are dire need of spiritual reinforcement.
“(People have said) it was a great help to start the day,” Dortch said. “(They typically say they’ve) enjoyed the verses that were selected, and it was easy to understand.
“I believe that God placed a voice inside of me to help guide others to developing a relationship with God,” Dortch continued. “I believe that it is my purpose to give others a view of the Christian walk and to create Disciples of Christ by what they see and hear from me.”
Interestingly, Dortch has announced that plans are effective underway for other books, most notably her forthcoming project entitled, “The Journey, Twisted.”
In addition, she will be afforded the golden opportunity to promote her books in the coming months, including at The Purposed Women Conference and National Black Authors Festival in October, and The Women of Purpose Conference and Cruise in July 2019.
Despite all about which she gone through and overcome, Dortch doesn’t shy away from the notion that she’s finally walking in her divine purpose.
“I have lived by this quote my entire adult life: ‘They will never believe what you say, but they will always believe what you do,’” said Dortch, reciting the words of an author unknown. “I have finally realized what God’s purpose is for my life. I couldn’t imagine meeting God face to face and trying to explain why I did not do what I was placed on earth to do for the kingdom of God.
“It is my pleasure and my duty to see other succeed and to help them realize that you can rise from the ashes of defeat,” Dortch continued. “There is always tomorrow, and it is never okay to give up. I will live every day on purpose. I come from mental, physical, and emotional abuse, and still I rise! I won’t give up, and I will continue to empower women, publish books, speak life, and guide others to the kingdom.”
That’s because of who is she and because of where God is taking her, she knows full well what it is like to defy the urge to quit.
