Maryland businesswoman Dr. Jennifer Jones Bryant on her progressive organization: ‘I wanted to pursue a career in public service’

FROM TURBULENCE TO TRIUMPH 

Dr. Jennifer Jones Bryant doesn’t shy away from the notion that she’s endured her share of life-altering struggles, let alone her dreaded season in the wilderness.

But God…

“I have had my share of disappointments to include being fatherless during my childhood and spending my teenage years caring for a mentally ill mother…a time during which my only sibling was incarcerated,” Dr. Bryant, 50, during an interview this week with Making Headline News, said. “Having to be on my own since age 17 because my mom one day had a severe manic episode where she threw bullets against my door and threatened to kill me, my life was never the same and I went into survival mode.”

Even amid a disastrous, turbulent sequence that was mired by a disheartening season of domestic abuse in two unhealthy relationships while in her 20’s, Dr. Bryant was destined to demonstrate what undoubtedly was some bend-but-don’t-break faith, the kind of sticktoitiveness that essentially impressed it upon God to move on her behalf, thus provide for her a much-needed way of escape.

“I looked past my challenging beginnings and reached within myself and my reliance on faith to find strength,” Dr. Bryant recalls. “I realized that my burning desire to expand beyond the path that was set for my childhood, I wanted to pursue a career in public service.”

For Dr. Bryant, she didn’t merely stop until her quest to reap favorable results through her awe-inspiring ambitions had subsequently come to fruition.

And, so it came to pass that this devout woman of faith had established Reaching Within, An Empowerment Journey LLC, her Mitchellville, Maryland-based venture whose strategic mission is centered largely on inspiring and empowering others so that they can overcome personal challenges that would enable them to meet their professional goals for success.

In essence, Dr. Bryant’s Reaching Within is a credible and longstanding endeavor that customarily inspires, empowers and motivates its clients to fully reach their career goals by using the visualizing, initiating, strategizing, integrating opportunities, all of which is known as the Next Steps or the V. I. S. I. O. N. technique.

“We do this through personal engagement, competence, and integrity,” said Dr. Bryant, adding that her organization services include — but aren’t limited to — personal development, resume critique, accountability calls, life coaching, and career counseling.

Moreover, besides its vast skill set, Reaching Within has become a fixture, in large part because it specializes in leadership training, professional development, effective communication, interviewing preparation, and is equipped with a high volume of long-term clients.

A native of Seat Pleasant, Maryland — the hometown of two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant — who mostly spent her summers in nearby Edgefield, South Carolina, Dr. Bryant’s rise to empowerment success comes amid humble beginnings.

“I found a day job working for the federal government and cleaned bathrooms at night in that same building,” Dr. Bryant said. “After graduating college, I moved up the ranks quickly, going from a clerk-typist to senior management in my 20’s and later retired from the federal government with my senior executive service certification while working through my depression from the loss of my mother, my brother — my only sibling — and the ending of my 18-year marriage.”

Despite the rash of struggles and obstacles through which she had encountered, Dr. Bryant was careful in that she never allowed her faith to waver. If nothing else, she fervently adopted the mindset to implied she would ultimately make good on those slew of unfavorable circumstances — with God, her Helper, steering the way.

“As I walked through my healing journey, I started embracing my abundant blessings in my life, including my two lovely daughters, my second marriage, and a host of loving and supportive friends and family,” Dr. Bryant, who resides in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, explained. “My mom was my inspiration. Although she had a fifth-grade level education, she was full of wisdom and had a high level of emotional intelligence to raise two children on her own after my father’s tragic construction accident when I was five years old.  While growing up, I saw the pain of her trying to push through (in the aftermath) of my father’s death, as well as her mental illness until her death. Her strength helped me with my resiliency story today.”

A graduate of Bowie (Maryland) High School, Dr. Bryant holds Associate and Bachelor of Science Degrees in Business Administration (with a minor in Human Resources) from Strayer University.

Consequently, she acquired a Master of International Management Degree from the University of Maryland-Global Campus, as well as a Program Manager, Level 2 Certification, Transportation Security Administration.
