Take a look, if you will, at the classic photo of Diarah Humphreys from nearly two decades ago.
Arguably one of the cutest, adorable youngsters of her generation, the then-four-year-old Humphreys thought it necessary to wear a nifty chef hat.
Given what is taking place today, or approximately 18 years later, it’s safe to assume that hat Humphreys wore way back then was a mere glimpse of things to come.
That’s because this native Memphian, who is a notable server and prep cook at a local assisted living facility, is widely known throughout the Mid-South for her mouth-watering, delectable treats as a rising professional baker.
“I am pursuing a career in baking,” Humphreys, a 2012 Memphis Southwind High graduate, told Making Headline News this week. “I enjoy baking, learning new things, and also experiencing new things. Sometimes, it can a little stressful, but at the end of the day, it’s something I love to do.”
And given the immense strides she’s made in the infancy stages of what is shaping up to be a pretty rewarding tenure as a rising entrepreneur, it seems that Humphreys — with the tireless support of her mother, Velinda Humphreys, who’s a longtime Memphis-area businesswoman — is creating a compelling clientele.

At just 22-years of age, Humphreys bakes as if she’s been a part of this ever-so-competitive industry for quite some time. Her scrumptious baked goods are all made from scratch with her own personal touch of creativity that consumers have come to embraced.
And here’s a worthy, notable reminder — and hint, mind you — for those who are looking for sweet tooth gifts as the latest holiday looms: Mother Day is just a few days away.
“My services cater to all age groups, young to old,” Humphreys said. “My mission is to create enjoyable, delicious (products) and also healthy treats and pastries from scratch that all ages can enjoy.”
By and large, because baking professionally appears to have been a long-awaited dream of Humphreys since she was basically too young to remember, she doesn’t shy away from the notion that she boasts loft aspirations of someday expanding her thriving business into a credible franchise — or two, or three, or four, or…you get the picture.
Aside from her mother having greatly inspired her to broaden her horizon through her dazzling talents as a professional baker, Humphreys’ passion for baking was discovered when she was a child, watching her grandfather and father put on display their brilliantly amazing baking repertories.
“Never would’ve thought that I would be baking, but here I am now,” Humphreys said. “I also have many other family members who bake and cook. I guess I can say that it’s in the blood.”
Humphreys began to shift her focus more toward professional baking in 2014. Prior to that, she had become a fixture at whipping up her popular chocolate covers strawberries.
Today, she bakes regularly and is also known for selling different varieties of coffees and teas.

“I want to see people enjoy my delicious pastries and treats from all over (the world),” Humphreys said. (I want them) to be able to stop and think that about the dreams I’ve had, to see them come alive and into action just excites me. Seeing people rave about my pastries would mean so much to me.”
Now that her business is starting to come full circle, Humphreys thought it essential to pass along some notable advice to her peers whom, like her, are business-minded.
“When you reach an obstacle, turn it into an opportunity,” Humphreys said. “You have the choice. You can overcome and be a winner, or you can allow it to overcome you and be a loser. The choice is yours and yours alone. Refuse to throw in the towel. Go that extra mile that failures refuse to travel. It is far better to be exhausted from success than to be rested from failure.”
So much for the “little stress” her craft often creates.
Because at the end of the day, it’s something she loves to do.
